Trigger Point is a form of medical massage therapy created to relieve pain through applied pressure to specific areas of the body. Sometimes referred to as Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy or Neuromuscular Therapy, the practitioner is trained to palpate for areas of tension within the muscles and attachments to pinpoint specific muscle knots that are oftentimes the root cause of decreased range of motion, weakness, and even longstanding, chronic pain.
Trigger points are defined by distinct pain patterns deciphered by the practitioner that may cause discomfort in unsuspecting ways, but because the body and its internal structures are all connected by an intricate network of connective tissue known as fascia, Trigger Point Therapy can have both lasting and far-reaching effects that may relieve common complaints such as general back pain, sciatica, rotator cuff discomfort, neck pain, headaches, temporomandibular joint pain and plantar fasciitis.
Trigger Point focuses on musculoskeletal disorders that are the result of trauma to muscle fibers, most commonly through repetitive use injuries.
Otherwise known as Myofascial Pain Syndrome, these painful points in the muscles may manifest as:
Deep, aching pain within the muscles.
Pain that persists or worsens.
A tender knot palpable within a muscle fiber.
Decreased range of motion.
